>What if the passport holder is not available at home to collect the passport?

As per the directive, a passport and driving licence can only be given to the addressee whose name is mentioned on them, but if the passport holder is a minor, then the parent/guardian can collect the passport by showing their ID card.

The discretion of the postman is to hand over the envelope to a family member of the applicant (checking ID proof) or to simply give the intimation slip at home; the receiver can go to the post office within five days to collect the passport with the intimation slip. If the receiver does not claim a passport within 5 days, the post office returns such a passport to the sender, i.e., the passport office.

>How long do we need to wait to receive a passport speed post after it is dispatched?

Passport applicants receive an SMS stating that their passport has been dispatched on so and so date, but when they check the online status of the same passport, there is no data available because the passport department makes all the arrangements to dispatch the passport by providing the barcode, but technically, the passport has not been booked and is not in India Post custody. The passport department sends an SMS before the passport is booked by the postal department, so it is not the postal department's fault for delayed delivery or online tracking update.

Once the passport is booked, one can expect delivery within 2-4 days.

>What to do if my passport arrives by speed post but nobody is at home to collect it?

On the day of the arrival of the passport, if you are not present at home, the beat postman will leave an intimation slip at your home about the arrival of the passport with his mobile number on it. You collect it the next day from the post office. You have to carry ID proof and address proof. If you have not collected the passport from the post office the next morning, the postman will bring it a second time for delivery if you are still not available at home. It will be kept in deposit for 5 days at the delivery post office. After 5 days, the passport will be returned to the passport office as "unclaimed".

If it is returned to the passport office, you have to start correspondence with the passport office. They will resend it.

>Can a parent or friend collect a passport on behalf of the passport holder?

No, a passport can not be handed over to someone other than the passport holder. An authority letter is also not accepted to collect a passport.

>Can passport be redirected to a different address?

No, please note that your passport and driving licence are not redirected to the new address.

>Do we need to pay for passport delivery?

No, nothing to pay for passport delivery. The postman should not ask for money for passport delivery.
