POD (Proof of Delivery) charges are INR 10.00 per article in addition to Speed Post charges.

Booking speed post is very simple. For booking, you need to put documents or articles into an envelop and need to visit the post office (no need to paste a postal stamp on the envelop).
Note-if you want to send 2-4 pages, you can purchase an envelop at the post office, but if your content is bigger, make sure you carry your own envelop from a stationery store as post office envelops are small in size, which cost you Rs.5/-.

24-What if a speed post is not delivered due to the absence of a receiver, a wrong address, or not accepted by the addressee?
If the package is not delivered by speed post due to the absence of the addressee, it is kept at the post office (window delivery) for the next 5 days by leaving an intimation slip at home or office, and the right recipient can collect it from the post office by showing ID card within 5 days.
If the addressee's address is wrong and not found by the postman, then those letters are returned to the sender on the same day.
If the addressee does not accept the delivery of speed post for any reason, those letters are returned to the sender by putting a remark on the letter as refused by the addressee.

26. What if the passport holder is not available at home to collect the passport?
As per directive, a passport and driving licence can only be given to the addressee whose name is mentioned on it, but if the passport holder is a minor, then the parent/guardian can collect the passport by showing ID card.
The discretion of the postman is to hand over the envelope to a family member of the applicant (checking ID proof) or to simply give the intimation slip at home; the receiver can go to the post office within five days to collect the passport and intimation slip.If the receiver does not claim a passport within 5 days, the post office returns such a passport to the sender, i.e., the passport office.
27-Is speed post faster than courier?
Speed post service is faster than private courier services as speed post operates from its nationwide network. India’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reported that the Dept of Posts' (DoP) Speed Post service outperforms private courier companies. Some private courier companies use speed post to send parcels.
28-How to write speed post address on an envelope?
To send a speed post letter, one needs to write the sender and receiver addresses on the envelope. Firstly, the addressee (receiver) address should be written on the upper left side of the envelope, and the sender address should be written on the back side of the envelope at the right bottom.

Speed post online tracking data is stored for 90 days only.
45-What to do if my passport arrived by speed post but nobody was home to collect it?
On the day of the arrival of the passport, if you are not present at home, the beat postman will leave an intimation slip at your home about the arrival of the passport with his mobile number on it.You collect it on the next day from the post office. You have to carry ID proof and address proof. If you have not collected the passport from the post office the next morning, the postman will bring it a second time for delivery if you are still not available at home. It will be kept in deposit for 5 days at the delivery post office. After 5 days, the passport will be returned to the passport office as "unclaimed".
If it is returned to the passport office, you have to start correspondence with the passport office. They will resend it.
46-Will I get a confirmation SMS of speed post delivery?
Yes, DOP has introduced SMS service for delivery , but while booking speed post at the counter, you should tell the booking clerk to enter your mobile number in the booking software so that you get a timely update of your speed post and confirmation of delivery.
47-Can a parent or friend collect a passport on behalf of the passport holder?
No, a passport can not be handed over to someone other than the passport holder. An authority letter is also not accepted to collect a passport.
48-Can a family member or friend collect my speed post on behalf of me?
Yes, a family member can collect speed post on behalf of the actual receiver, but if a friend is collecting a letter on behalf of the actual receiver, then he needs to produce an authority letter duly signed by the addressee.
49-Can we refuse delivery of speed post?
Yes, you can refuse to accept delivery of speed post.
50-Do postman call before coming to the house to deliver the speed post.
Yes, if your mobile/landline number is printed on the speed post, then the postman will definitely call before coming to your home for delivery. Nowadays, the receiver receives a system-generated message that "your parcel is out for delivery."

52-For how many days will an international speed post parcel be kept in the post office if it is not delivered?
If international speed parcels are kept for 18 days in the office, but if customs charges are due, they will be kept in custody for 21 days.

Ans: If a wrong pin code is written on a letter by the sender, then the post office redirects such articles to the correct destination by putting the correct pin code on the letters.
54-What if the recipient address is wrongly typed by the sender?
In that case, the postman will pass an insufficient address remark on the letter and send it back to the sender.
55-What if a residential address is changed and we expect some letters or parcels at the old address?
If your residential address has changed, we can submit a change of address letter to the post office from where our letters are delivered regularly. Post office staff make note of your new address. Now, whenever the post office receives your letter, those letters are redirected to your new address.
Letter redirection is valid for 3 months only. After 3 months, no letter will be redirected to your new address.
Please note that your passport and driving licence are not redirected to the new address.
While submitting a change of address application, you need to carry your photo id and address proof copy such as an Aadhar card or driving license.
56-What should be done if a speed post parcel is held up at customs for an extended period of time?
The custom department and the postal department are both separate government departments. Whenever a parcel enters the country, it directly goes to custom department custody. The custom department assesses the duty according to rules and regulation. Once the custom duty is assessed, then it is handed over to the postal department for delivery. Once the parcel is released from the customs department, it is delivered to the addressee at the stipulated time.
If a parcel becomes stuck at the customs department for any reason, the postal department cannot intervene; customs clearance is not the postal department's responsibility; in such cases, the customer must contact the respective customs department.
